Looking for a new piece for your holiday gigs? Presenting "O Christmas Tree" (aka "O Tannenbaum," aka "Mon Beau Sapin"), a shareware arrangement for pedal harp! I've been thinking about doing a yearly Christmas arrangement for quite a while now, and here, finally, is the first one. But, as it's close to Christmas, and as this piece is much less useful the rest of the year, I've decided to experiment with an unorthodox delivery system. The experimental delivery system: Please feel free to download the arrangement (in pdf), email it to your friends, copy it for your students, etc. And if you (or they) enjoy the piece, I would love to be paid for it (mostly for writing in all those pedals..) You can do this, in about 90 seconds, via a secure payment with Paypal/credit card, by clicking the "donate" button below. The recommended donation is $5-10. The advantage of this system, of course, is that you get your music right away, and get to try it out. I'm very curious to see how this concept works out. In fact, I have an ongoing discussion with a few friends about whether this idea is ingenious or naive (and how guilty consciences and good karma fit in) and I'm counting on you to help prove me right! Plus: There's a giveaway! After Jan 31, 2009 I'll send 3 randomly-selected "donors" one of my current (or future) CDs (their choice.) In addition, I'll be able to let you know about any future arrangements--or even corrections to this one! |

Some quick note on the arrangement: All of the 8th notes are swung. Sometimes I've notated them as triplets (when they're being played against another triplet), to make this especially clear. But basically, everything is in a triplet, "long-short" rhythm. The left hand muffles are, for the most part, flat palm muffles, made as you're placing for the next chord. Have fun with "O Christmas Tree," and best wishes for the holidays. Park Stickney Download "O Christmas Tree" in .pdf |
